Those who sing pray twice

St Augustine famously said, ‘Those who sing pray twice’. At St Benet’s music, both singing, choral and organ music forms an integral part of our worship.

Thanks to the generosity of sponsors, both members of the regular congregation and beyond, here at St Benet Fink Tottenham we are able to offer an outstanding and wide-ranging repertoire of Church music. We are the only church in the local area to have a professional choir singing regularly at our services; we are also extremely fortunate to have an historic organ to accompany and perform both choral and organ works. If you would like to become a supporter of the music at St Benet’s, please get in touch.

Once a month, a professional choir sings at the Parish Mass. This includes them singing the Mass texts to settings in a variety of different styles, ranging from Renaissance polyphony and Viennese masterpieces to 21st century compositions. They also sing an anthem during the distribution of Holy Communion.   To find out what music is being sung this term, download the music list above.

Having a choir sing at Mass is always a special occasion: we celebrate this by following our worship with food and drink for body as well as soul. This takes the form of a reception, a parish lunch or a barbecue in the summer.

On several Sundays through the year, our professional choir sings Solemn Evensong and Benediction. Evensong has long been one of the best opportunities to experience the English Choral Tradition. At St Benet’s at Evensong we use the majestic language of the Book of Common Prayer, which is complemented by the choir singing the responses, psalm, the canticles and an anthem to a variety of settings drawn from the full breadth of the Anglican tradition.

After Evensong, we have an opportunity to enjoy one St Benet’s most popular events, our famous curry evening. To find out the dates of this term’s Evensongs, download the music list.

At Christmas, our choir sing a traditional Carol Service by candlelight: a popular event for all the family and the wider community.
