Director of Music Vacancy

Thank you for your interest in exploring this post. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a gifted musician to join us as Director of Music at St Benet Fink, Tottenham to lead and develop the next phase of the church’s musical life.  This role attracts an annual payment of £8,500.

We envisage a new Director of Music having taken up the role by September 2026 at the latest.  Meanwhile, we also invite applications and expressions of interest from those whose commitments might allow them to take up the post before that date.  Please contact the Vicar, Fr James Hill, to have an informal discussion about the role.

Why this role is special
At St Benet’s, music isn’t an add‑on; it’s at the heart of our worship and identity. We’re looking for someone who wants to deepen a thriving musical tradition and help our parish continue to grow in beauty, prayerfulness, and choral excellence. St Benet’s offers:
✨ A rare hybrid model: c. 40 Sunday Masses per annum are sung to a congregational Mass setting, with 4 hymns and a voluntary. Once a month, the Mass is sung by professional singers; there are c. 9 evening choral services per annum; and the professional choir sings at the services in Holy Week, and on other major feasts.
🎶 Professional choral music at the centre of worship: our professional choir sings monthly at Mass, with Choral Evensong several times a year; a distinctive and rare opportunity locally.
🎹 A historic Father Willis organ: play and develop repertoire on a much‑loved instrument.
🙏 A vibrant Anglo‑Catholic parish: rich liturgy, generous hospitality, and a community that values and supports high‑quality sacred music.

We seek someone who:

• Is an excellent organist, and is skilled in directing and accompanying a choir of professional singers, as well as enabling engaging congregational music.

• Is excited by the current musical offer at St Benet’s, and is committed to work with us to further develop the musical tradition.

• Can work collaboratively to plan music that engages the whole congregation in worship.

• Has a good understanding of the role of music in liturgy, and an ability to work within the Anglo-Catholic liturgical tradition.
